George Kontsis

Varsity: Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator

Coach Kontsis is a 1976 graduate of Maryland's Wheaton High School (15 minutes outside of Washington DC). He went on to receive his BS in physical education from Frostburg State University and his MA in education from Villanova University. He began his coaching career at Seneca Valley High School in Montgomery County Maryland. There he worked under Coach Al Thomas, who won 8 Division I state titles in Maryland. In 1985 he was hired to coach the quarterbacks at Montgomery College in Maryland. In 1986 he moved to Albany State University in Albany, New York working with the QB's and serving as the J.V. Offensive Coordinator. In 1987 he accepted a position at Villanova University as Tight Ends Coach. In 1989 Coach K moved to the University of Cincinnati, serving as assistant QB coach. In 1991, he was hired by legendary St. Xavier High School Coach Steve Rasso to serve as Quarterbacks and wide receivers coach as well as serving as Offensive Coordinator. In 1992, St. X had their first 10-0 season, making it to the state final at Fawcett Stadium and losing to St. Ignatius. St. X set numerous offensive records that year, including points per game (36), most yards per game (375), and first playoff victory in school history. That season also saw the Bombers beat perennial GCL power Moeller for the first time in 21 years by a score of 44-0. The QB who engineered such a successful run for the Bombers was Jamie Doxsey, who currently serves as the Defensive Coordinator for Walnut Hills. In 1993 coach K moved to Roger Bacon, serving as QB Coach and Offensive Coordinator while helping lead the Spartans to a 7-3 record and a Co-Championship in the GCL North. In 1994 he was hired as Head Coach at Oak Hills High School, but after 3 less than stellar years resigned in December of 96. In 1997 Coach K was hired as Offensive Coordinator at Hamilton. In the fall of 1997, the Big Blue went 10-0 before losing to St. X in the first round of the playoffs. The Big Blue led the GMC in total offense during the 1997 and 1998 campaigns. Coach K mentored Quarterback Andy Mignery for two years at Hamilton, helping him earn a full scholarship to the University of Michigan. He was hired as head coach of Hughes High School in April of 2003. During his tenure, Hughes participated in the I Wireless Classic at Paul Brown Stadium, was named "Tempstar-WCPO TV Team of the Week twice as well as the Fox 19 Papa Johns Team of the week. Former tailback Bryant Mcmillion (University of Akron), tailback Montez Patterson (University of Cincinnati), and receiver Clyde Robinson (Mercyhurst) are all on full scholarship. Many other former Hughes players are in college at the Division III level. Hughes finished 7-3 during the 2007 season, tying the school's best record for the last 10 years.

Coach K is married to Melissa, a member of the Oak Hills Athletic Hall of Fame; she earned nine varsity letters during her prep career for the Highlanders. She went on to earn All-American Academic Honors while playing volleyball at Temple University. She is currently Director of Physical Therapy for Beacon Orthopedics. Coach K and Melissa reside in Colerain Township with their 3 children: 8-year old twins Alexis and Jack, and 5-year old A.J. The coach's hobbies include the music of Motown and fitness. Among his favorite groups are the Temptations and the Four Tops. The new "top dog" of Walnut Hills Football, Levi, a black Labrador, is named after Levi Stubbs, the lead singer of the Four Tops.

Jamie Doxsey

Varsity: Defensive Coordinator, Secondary

Coach Doxsey is a 1993 graduate of St. Xavier High School, where he was a 3-year letter winner in both football and baseball. As quarterback, Doxsey led the 1992 St. Xavier Football team to its 1st ever GCL Championship, a playoff win, a Regional Championship, and State Final appearance. He was a 1st team GCL Selection and 2nd team All Southwest Ohio selection in football (1992), as well as a 1st team GCL, 1st team All-City, 1st team All Southwest Ohio, and an All State selection in baseball (1993) as a senior. After high school, Coach Doxsey went on scholarship to play baseball at Northern Kentucky University, where he was a 3 year letter winner for legendary Coach Bill Aker and the Norse. In 1998, He received a B.S. in Economics with a minor in Business Administration. After a 5 year career in the banking and investment industry, Coach Doxsey began his coaching and teaching career at Purcell Marian High School in 2002. After two years of working for Tom Stickley as the Quarterbacks Coach and Pass Game Coordinator, Larry Baumann took the helm for the Cavaliers, and Coach Doxsey moved to the defensive side of the ball to coordinate Purcell Marian's defense for 3 seasons until 2006. While at Purcell Marian, Coach Doxsey also was the Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach for Dan Roberts for 3 seasons. For the 2006 and 2007 football seasons, Coach Doxsey was the Inside Linebackers Coach and Run Game Coordinator at Oak Hills High School for Defensive Coordinator Justin Roden, and Head Coach Kurry Commins. Currently, he is also the Head JV baseball coach at Oak Hills for Coach Chuck Laumann. Doxsey is attending Graduate school at The College of Mt. Saint Joseph, pursuing a Masters' Degree and licensure in Special Education in order to become a high school intervention specialist. Coach Doxsey is married to Julie, a Mercy High School and Ohio University Alumea. With a BS in Communications, she currently works for the Belltower Advertising Agency, where she is the Account Supervisor. Coach Doxsey and Julie reside in Cheviot with their 2 year old son, Carson.

Mike Kraemer

Varsity: Offensive Line, Running Game Coordinator

Coach Kraemer graduated from Elder High School in 1984 and received a full athletic scholarship to Vanderbilt University. Mike has coached varsity football for the past 21 years, having spent three of those years at Aiken High School as offensive coordinator/offensive line coach and 18 years at Elder High School as offensive line/special teams coordinator. Highlights include winning back to back Division I football titles and helping numerous players receive college scholarships from such institutions as Boston College, Brown, Cincinnati, Duke, Louisville, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, with more to come! Mike's enthusiasm from the field carries over into the classroom, where he has taught high school mathematics in the Cincinnati Public Schools for the past 17 years. Among other hobbies, Coach Kraemer enjoys domestic and international travel. Mike lives in Price Hill with his awesome wife Kate, daughter Kelley and son Tommy.

Tom Sharp

Varsity: Assistant Offensive/Defensive Line Coach

Coach Sharp attended St. George Grade School (Corryville Catholic) and Central High School. He went on to Eastern Kentucky University where he earned a B.S. in Physical Education and Health. He was the starting nose guard and offensive guard for EKU. He later earned a Master's in Education from Xavier University.

His coaching career began at Eastern Hills Junior High. Sharp spent 14 years at Woodward High School, seven of those years as head coach. At Withrow High School, Coach Sharp served seven years in total and was head coach of the Tigers for two years. In the fall of 1986 he became the Head Coach at Walnut Hills, serving in that capacity for 17 years. At Shroder High School, he spent two years as an assistant and then moved on to Hughes High School for three years, where he assisted with coaching the offensive and defensive lines. In Coach Sharp's three years at Hughes, he mentored three first-team all-conference linemen and three second-team all-conference linemen. Coach Sharp has two sons, Tom "Duff" Sharp and Chris "Kip" Sharp. He has four grandchildren: Benjamin (7), Danielle (4) Gregory (6) and Charly (2).

 

Ryan Barnhil

Varsity: Outside Linebackers Coach

Coach Barnhill graduated from Madeira High School in 2005, where he was a 3-year varsity letterman in football. While playing outside linebacker/defensive end, he recorded 97 tackles and 10 sacks his senior year. Barnhill was also 1st team CHL and he also played in the 2005 East-West Allstar Game for the East team. Coach Barnhill is currently a full-time student at the University of Cincinnati in pursuit of a degree in biology with a minor in Chemistry. He began his coaching career in the 2007 season under Coach Kontsis at Hughes, where they finished 7-3, tying a school best record in 10 years.

Troy Tuck

Varsity: Inside Linebackers Coach

Coach Tuck was born on December 25, 1975. He is a 1994 graduate of Archbishop Moeller High School. Playing football for the Crusaders, Tuck was 1st Team All- GCL Confrence, 1st Team All-City, 1st Team All Southwest District, and 3rd team All-State in 1993. Tuck's Crusader team lost the 1993 State and National Championship game to Cleveland St. Ignatius. Moeller was ranked number #3 in the Nation and St. Ignatius was ranked #1. Tuck played in that game with a broken arm. After Moeller, he attended L.A. Valley Community College, In Los Angeles, California, where he played football for two years. While there, he earned 1st Team All-League in 1994 and 1995 and was 1st Team All -American in 1995 (Notable members of that team included former Cincinnati Bengal Corey Dillion and current Bengal Michael Meyers. ). Tuck played in the 1995 Junior College National Championship game. He graduated in 1995 with an Associates of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts in a year in a half ( two year program). Tuck then went on to play football at Youngstown State University (1996 and 1997). He was a two-year starter at inside linebacker, lead the team with 90 tackles in 1997, and recorded the highest total of Tackles (18) in a Youngstown State playoff game against Hampton University. He was a starting inside linebacker for YSU's 1997 National Championship Team, which was coahced by Jim Tressell, now head coach at Ohio State University. He earned a degree in Communications in 1998. A former pharmaceutical sales rep, Coach Tuck is now in medical sales in the Cincinnati area. He lives with his wife Monica in downtown Cincinnati on Prospect Hill. Prior to coming to Walnut Hills, he coached at Youngstown State in 1999 and at Ashland University in 1998. For 2008, he is making his return to coaching. It will be his first coaching stint on the high school level.

Bob Zoglio

Varsity: Running Backs Coach

Coach Zoglio graduated from Anderson High School in 1980 (HCSAA Division I, All League, All City Running Back in 1979 Season). Zoglio played fullback & special teams for the University of Cincinnati (1980-1984). He graduated from the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Art Architecture in 1985. Bob and his wife Angela reside in Anderson Township with their two children (Alexis 7 and Zach 5). He is an Engineer for Sprint/Nextel Corporation (13 Years) and the President/Owner of RZI Properties, LLC. He serves as Head Coach in the Forest Hills Youth Football Organization.

Cedric Crawford

Varsity: Outside Receivers Coach

Cedric Crawford is a 1991 graduate of Walnut Hills High School. Crawford was an All-Conference defensive back and played wide receiver and cornerback. He held the state record for blocked kicks in a season with 8 in the fall of 1991. Coaching for 5 years, Crawford was the JV Defensive Coordinator from 2005 to 2006. He serves as Defensive Backs coach for the Eagles in 2005, 2006, and 2007. As well, he was the Head Freshman Coach during 07 football season. Coach Crawford was the varsity outfielders coach for the Walnut Hills Baseball Teamin 2006. The former Second Class Petty Officer in the US Navy served aboard the USS Bulkeley from 1999 to 2002. Currently working for The Hilmann Group as a shipping coordinator, he also takes time to work as a mentor for at-risk young men in Cincinnati. Crawford hold an Associates Degree from the University of Cincinnati in Criminal Justice. He has three children: Cedric, Cali, and Chad Crawford. He is currently a varsity receivers coach for the Walnut Hills Eagles.

Mike Waddle

Varsity: Inside Receivers Coach

Coach Waddle continues his family’s tradition of excellence in the game of football.  His father was a very successful player at Reading High School in the 1960’s.  Coach Waddle and his brother both attended Moeller High school, where they won state and national championships during the 1980’s.  As Coach Waddle entered into the coaching ranks, his brother, Tom, led the nation in receiving at Boston College and went on to play 6 years professionally with the Chicago Bears, becoming a fan favorite with his gritty play and blue collar persona.  Coach Waddle played several years of semi-pro football as a QB and strong safety.

Coach Waddle is entering his fourth year with the Walnut Hills Eagles and brings with him past coaching experiences at Moeller High School and Indian Hill High School.  He has also devoted several years of coaching with the St. Antoninus Jaguars of the Western Football Conference where his teams were city champions.  Coach Waddle believes his greatest coaching strengths are his obsession with all things football and his attention to detail.

Ken Collins

Varsity: Assistant Secondary Coach

Coach Collins graduated from Powell Valley High School in Big Stone Gap, VA in 1967. While in high school he participated in football and track, earning letters in both sports. After high school he attended Pikeville Presbyterian College, majoring in education. White at Pikeville, he ran track and played baseball. After graduation in 1971, he accepted a position teaching American history and physical education in Atlanta, Ga. He was assistant football, wresting and track coach at Peachtree High School from 1971-1977. In 1977, he moved his family to his hometown in Virginia and was assistant football and head track coach at his former high school from 1977-1986. In 1989, he and his family moved to Cincinnati, and he began teaching for Cincinnati Public Schools while coaching football at St. Xavier from 1990-1997, track at Wyoming High School from 1990-1997, and wrestling at Princeton in 1992. He presently teaches physical education at Walnut Hills.

Jason Wilcox

Varsity: Assistant Secondary Coach

Coach Wilcox graduated from Oak Hills High School in 1999. He received three varsity letters in football and four varsity letters in wrestling. Wilcox was captain his senior year and honorable mention defensive back in the QCC. Wilcox also earned all-city honors in wrestling and made two separate appearances at the state tournament. He furthered his career at Heidelberg College, where in majored in health and physical education. Wilcox continued to play both sports in college, earning four varsity letters in football and two in wrestling. After college, he started his coaching career at Heidelberg working with the defensive backs for one year before returning home. Back home, he continued to coach football as the Head Coach of the Delhi Middle School football team. He also began to coach wrestling at Harrison High School. He presently is the health and physical education teacher at P.A.C.E. High School.

Joe Piening

Varsity: Assistant QB Coach

Coach Piening graduated from Western Hills High School in 2000.  He was a three sport athlete for the Mustangs and was named Valedictorian of his graduating class.  Joe then went on to play football for the College of Mount St. Joseph where he was Academic All-Conference and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting in December 2003.   Joe continued his professional education at the University of Cincinnati where he obtained his MBA with a concentration in International Business in June 2006.  He currently works at Chiquita Brands International as a Financial Analyst.  Joe has remained active in high school athletics as an OHSAA varsity basketball official for the past 5 years.  He also had a brief stint at Walnut Hills as an Assistant Varsity Softball Coach during the 2002 season when the Eagles won the PHSL championship.  Joe’s hobbies include playing softball and basketball, officiating, and spending as much time as possible with his new wife.  Joe and his amazing wife Carmen reside in Amelia.  This will be Joe’s first high school football coaching position.

Mike Herald

Freshmen: Offensive Coordinator

Mike Herald is a 1972 graduate of Dayton (Ky.) High School where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track.  His senior year he was named all state honorable mention in basketball.  He attended Troy State University in Troy, Alabama on a basketball scholarship helping his team to the NCAA D II regional finals.  In 1976 he graduated with a BA degree in Math Education.

The last 32 years have included teaching stops at Beechwood High School (2 yrs), Dayton High School (10 yrs), Aiken High School (8 yrs), and Walnut Hills High School (12 years and counting).  Coaching duties include assistant positions in basketball, football and head positions in basketball and tennis.  At Walnut Hills he has coached varsity basketball, freshman football, and 8th grade girls’ tennis.  Mike is presently coaching the freshman boys’ basketball team.

Mike and Evalene Herald have been married 32 years and have two sons.  Kenny (29) is a teacher and coach at Batavia High School.  Kenny is married to Shannon and they have two beautiful children, Will (3) and Morgan (1).  Joe, their second son, is a recent graduate of UK School of Dentistry and is in working in Lexington.

Ferd Schneider

Freshmen: Defensive Coordinator

Coach Schneider is a father, husband, teacher, coach and rugby player.  He is a 1985 graduate of LaSalle High School and graduated from Miami University in 1989 with a Mathematics and Chemistry Education Degree.  Coach earned his Masters Degree in Math Education from NKU.  He and his wife Jenny have three boys; George, Henry, & Louie and now live in Anderson Township.  Both he and his wife are Cincinnati people; Coach is from Westwood while his wife was raised in Mount Lookout.  Mr. Schneider has been playing rugby since entering college and currently plays for the USA Rugby Division I Cincinnati Wolfhounds rugby football club.  This team has just finished 4th in the nation at the national tournament in San Diego where Coach captained the side.

          He has coached swimming, track, football, and rugby at La Salle, Aiken, & Walnut Hills High Schools.  While coaching 14 years of swimming for his Alma Mater, the team made it to the State Finals the last 8 seasons and earned GCL coach of the year in 2000. At Aiken he coached football and track, also sending athletes to the State Finals in track, and working with new Walnut Coach, Mike Kraemer.  From 1997 to 2001 he coached our own football Eagles with Coach Sharp, running the freshman defense in 2001 while Coach Herald ran the freshman offensive game.  He is currently coaching the “Nuts” rugby club here at Walnut who were 2007 City Champs finishing 6th in the State.

         Coach Schneider started teaching at Aiken High School in 1990, came to Walnut Hills in 1997, and is now teaching Calculus and Engineering.  He enjoys the outdoors, trying to stay fit, playing with his children, and of course, rugby.  

Armand Tatum

Coordinator: Jr. High Football Program

Armand Tatum is a 1994 graduate of Walnut Hills High School. While at Walnut Hills, he was a three-year varsity player and was also a Queen City Conference All-Star and voted to the East/West All-Star game his senior year. This season will be Coach Tatum's seventh season coaching football, the fourth here with the Eagles. Prior to coming back to Walnut Hills, Coach Tatum was the varsity Offensive Line and JV Defensive coordinator at Mifflin High School in Columbus, Ohio. While coaching at Mifflin, Coach Tatum also volunteered with the Christian Youth Athletic Association. (CYAA Saints Football). Coach Tatum currently works for MAG Industrial Group, and he is also working on his Bachelors Degree at Cincinnati Christian University.

Jesse Mullins

8th Grade: Assistant Coach

Coach Mullins is a 1996 graduate of Walnut Hills High School. He has a degree in finance from the University of Cincinnati, where he played Rugby. Jesse has coached for several years, the bulk of which he coached baseball. This is his second year coaching the Walnut Hills Junior High Football teams. When he's not coaching, he is a husband, father, and a financial advisor. He resides in Anderson township with his wife, Brooke, and daughter Ella. Baby #2 is on the way!

Bill Polak, Jr.

7th Grade: Assistant Coach

Bill Polak, one of our Jr. High coaches, has been married since 1979 to Ellen, who teaches physical education for the Cincinnati Public Schools. Their Daughter, Kate, a Walnut Hills graduate, is currently working toward her doctorate degree at the University of Cincinnati.

Coach Polak was born and raised in the Cleveland area amd currently works as a carpenter. He graduated from Kent State Univeristy in 1972. Polak lived in San Francisco from 1976-1986 and Brecksville, Ohio from 1986-1990. He moved to Cincinnati in 1990. In coaching, he tries to stress the basics, the fundamentals of football, as well as thoroughness in addressing the task at hand. He would like players to carry at all times a strong sense of team and to develop an over-arching passion for the game.
