The First Walnut Hills Eagles Football Team (1895)
Walnut Hills High School has fielded football teams for more than 100 years. Over that century, the Eagles have had their share of glory, and many of its graduates have gone on to play college football. If you are a WHHS alumnus who played college or professional football, please let us know. Any former Eagle in the coaching ranks on any level would also be of interest to us. We are proud of your academic and professional achievements as well. After all, our student athletes should aspire to success on and off the football field. The list below (Did You Know?) was complied based on independent research as WHHS has no records on its football alumni available at this time (that's what we're doing here on this site!). If you have been omitted, please let us know!!!! The WHHS Touchdown Club would like to compile an archive of Eagle football history. This is a daunting task as no single source of school records (team and individual) exists to the best of our knowledge. We would like your help in compiling this history. Please, go dig out your year books, dust off your newspaper clippings, and help us bring the past back to life. If you have anything to contribute to this page (articles, photos, stats, etc.), please contact the site administrator. The first step is to compile an archive of every season: won-loss records and scores. Any information you have, even if incomplete, would be appreciated. Right now we are looking for won-loss records for 1956-1972, 1895 to 1941 and 1946-1951 and scores for ALL years. We are currently doing research in the alumni office, but some yearbooks are missing or no data was included. He earned three varsity letters and was a member of the 1999 Ivy League Championship team (ranked #25 in the country in I-AA that year). The WHHS Touchdown Club was happy to hear from David Drais (and all WHHS football alumni), and we appreciate his offer to help us with our history page. 2005 WHHS graduate Stephen Ellison is in his sophomore year at Tennesee-Martin. He plays tight end for the Skyhawks. Ellison was 1st Team all FAVC as senior at Walnut Hills. 1997 WHHS graduate John Wood played defensive line for the University of Michigan Wolverines. Material from the website www.functionalhandstrength.com indicates that Wood graduated from the University of Michigan and is (was) pursuing a graduate degree in Ann Arbor. If you have any more details about John Wood, please contact us. 1996 Walnut Hills graduate Glynn Johnson was a running back for the Indiana University Hoosiers in the late 1990s. Former Walnut Hills head coach Howard Fletcher, who was the Eagles' coach from 1952 to 1955, went on to become a groundbreaking coach at Northern Illinois University (See the article written upon his death in 2001).
